Our FCA Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Team are celebrating the news that their participation officer Nazma Liaqat, won the ‘Children’s Champion Award’ for ‘making a significant impact in championing the needs and rights of vulnerable children’ at the prestigious National Children and Young People Awards.
The annual awards took place last month and celebrate excellence in care for children, young people and families. Each year innovation and best practice is highlighted whilst paying tribute to those individuals or organisations that excel in quality care provision.
Nazma has been part of the FCA team for four years and was shortlisted for specifically supporting unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC), and helping them acclimatise to a life in foster care within the UK.
The National Children and Young People Award commented that
"Nazma’s dedication goes far beyond the scope of her role in assisting young unaccompanied asylum seekers, ensuring that they are not only welcomed but also provided with comprehensive support, enabling them to understand and integrate as seamlessly as possible".
On her win Nazma said:
This win has come as a great surprise! After winning the Best Support Worker award in 2021, it is such an honour to have my work recognised yet again this year. I really hope that, seeing this award, more people from our fostering community will be encouraged to come forward and work with us to give more Unaccompanied asylum children a loving home. My goal for next year is to get my book, ‘Life in Social Care’ published with the help of the FCA team and also record audio versions of it in various languages in the voices of the foster parents I work with so that people speaking different languages, from all backgrounds, with varied levels of abilities, can experience the book.”
