FCA Yorkshire and Lincolnshire has scooped two awards at this year’s National Children and Young People’s Awards.
These unique awards celebrate excellence in care for children, young people and families, showcase innovation and best practice in this area and pay tribute to those individuals or organisations who excel in quality care provision.
Recognising the crucial role of the support worker in providing high quality care and support for children, young people and families, Nazma showed evidence of commitment to person centred approaches, alongside dedication and positive team working.
Nazma has been part of the FCA team for just under two years, with judges commenting: “Nazma is personable, extremely hardworking and completely dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable young children. She gave numerous examples of going above and beyond and thinking outside of the box. Outstanding!”
The Partnership Working Award demonstrates an organisation with excellence in multi-agency working, transcending boundaries in order to ensure the best interests of children, young people and families. Judges are looking for evidence that the child is more important than the agency, who are working on their behalf.
FCA’s Participation Team is dedicated to providing young people with opportunities to have their voices heard, gain new experiences and have fun. Commenting on the award win, the judges said: “The team see young people’s future aspirations as a key tool to build their confidence, getting them used to working life.”
Melanie Murphy, registered manager at FCA Yorkshire and Lincolnshire added: “Winning both of these awards is testament to all the Participation Team’s hard work. They continue to go above and beyond to ensure the very best outcomes for the children and young people across FCA. Whether that’s offering career enhancement opportunities, Duke of Edinburgh or a packed calendar of fun activities and events, they always actively engage our children and young people and ensure their voices are heard and responded to.”
Michael Fox, Senior Participation Officer at FCA was also shortlisted in two other categories; The Children’s Champion Award and The Biggest Impact Award.
These latest award wins add to FCA’s continued success and their current Outstanding Ofsted rating. Foster parents, social workers, participation service and therapists work together to ensure that children and young people are provided with the emotional and practical support they need to grow and develop.
FCA Foster Parent Bridget from Mansfield, was also shortlisted as a finalist for the Foster Carer Award, for her selflessness and the positive difference she’s made to so many children’s lives over the last 15 years.
Despite intending to retire from fostering years ago, Bridget continued to provide care for two teenage boys following a placement breakdown in order to provide them with the stability to allow them to complete their GCSEs and college course.
Putting children at the heart of everything she does also meant that even after a cancer diagnosis and subsequent intensive treatment she remained an integral part of the boys’ lives, with the youngest remaining in her care.
This year’s black tie ceremony was held at the Birmingham International Convention Centre, and was attended by individuals and organisations across the care sector, all of which are dedicated to continually improving the lives and outcomes of children in care.
Overall, a fantastic achievement for FCA Yorkshire and Lincolnshire to be recognised amongst the best in providing top quality care within the sector.
