Registered Manager Melanie Murphy attended and shares her exciting experience with us. Check out her recap of the day’s highlights!

“I had the pleasure of joining our Peterborough team and the fostering families in the south of the region for our Family Fun Day (south). What a glorious day of sunshine we had. Our event was held in a school cricket ground in Stamford and we had the use of the club house for shelter and refreshments. Naz and Jess in our Participation Team were very popular for making chocolate, strawberry and bubblegum milkshakes with squirty cream and all the toppings! It was a lovely venue with plenty of space for the two bouncy castles and soft play den.’

‘Lunch was an enormous hotdog (they were nearly as long as some of our children!) but they went down a treat. Meeting foster parents and children in an informal setting such as this is not only a great pleasure, but I consider to be really important in getting to know our foster parents and all of our children and for them getting to know me. We have a number of newly approved foster parents across the region, so it was good to be able to meet people face to face and to see how they are getting on, sharing the positives and the challenges.’

‘Once again, it is really heart warming to see our older children acting with kindness and care towards our younger ones and making a special effort to engage them in the activities such as football and rounders, led by Fostering Service Manager, Gemma Jones and ably supported by our Participation Officer. With the heat, it was difficult to sustain any kind of activity without seeking out periods of shade but I don’t think I saw any tears and the children were all happy and engaged. I am sure there were some sleepy heads on the drive home.’

‘Foster parents and children were asked to provide feedback. They are asked what have you learned from today and one foster parent has shared, “The togetherness of FCA, they know how to have fun”. Another shared, “Thankyou for another great activity day.’

‘This is what making memories is about and we have plenty more in store over the forthcoming weeks in the region, culminating in our Family Fun Day North at the end of August, can’t wait!”
