Getting Messy: Our young people take part in charity art workshop
Every year in Northern Ireland, we ask our young people to pick a charity to focus on as part of our social value plan. This year one young person asked if we could support Codo Drops which is a local art based mental health charity ran by a graffiti artist, Chris McGuiggan (known as Codo). We completed a sponsored sea swim in August followed by a coffee morning art sale and a ballot in November which together raised over £1000 for the centre.
In Northern Ireland we recently had our office refurbished and wanted to be able to include the young people in the design of the office. We asked Chris if we could run a half term art workshop focusing on alternative arts, including graffiti in order to celebrate Care Day 2024.
The workshop was open to young people of all ages and we even had a special session where all our little ones could take part. It was very messy! We had a paint run/slip in side, clay modelling, tshirt making, lots of spray painting and each young person made a canvas to hang in the Belfast office. They also completed two large collaborative pieces. The creativity and talent of the young people was incredible. We cannot wait to see the finished pieces!
