As part of the Midlands’ ‘Safe and Happy’ mantra – a pledge to build a service that is centred on children and young people feeling safe and happy whilst in care, the team all came together to learn more about how to help young people make the transition into adulthood.
During the day, Senior Supervising Social Worker, Lydia, shared her findings from the following research: “What, if any role, can the region play in supporting young adults in staying safe, healthy and happy once they turn 18?”
Findings from this research highlighted practices which the Midlands team will be implementing into their service, including ensuring all young people have CVs and have easy access to copies of certificates and ID documents. Based on the findings, the team will also provide more opportunities for those turning 18 to meet up and form friendships.
Staff wellness was the big focus during the second part of the day, with the regional team enjoying a meditation sound bath, where they all left feeling very Zen!
Following the session, the team were asked to give words that best encapsulates what being part of the FCA Midlands mean to them. The following demonstrates how committed the region is to supporting foster parents and children:
- “Child-focused”
- “Productive”
- “Agents of change”
- “Family, caring, participation”
- “Together as one”
- Proud, hardworking, privilege”
- “Supportive and strength”
- “Family, laughter, and food”
More feedback from the day included the following from the team:
“It was lovely that we all contributed and worked so well as a team. Nice variety of foods which sparked conversations etc. A great feeling of togetherness!
“This was AMAZING, learning to take time for ourselves as a group felt like a real bonding moment.”
