According to the latest statistics released by Ofsted at the end of March 2020, 56,500 children were in care, a 3% increase compared to the 2019 figures. With 2021 predicted to follow the same trajectory, we desperately need more foster parents who can care for vulnerable children.
As we welcome the start of the summer holidays, children across the UK are gearing up to enjoy the sunshine and are looking forward to making happy memories with their families. Unfortunately not all children and young people have that loving and safe family unit. Whilst neglect and abuse are common reasons, there are a wide range of other reasons why a child may need foster care. It may be some families go through periods of instability such as a family illness or breakdown, some face learning difficulties or substance dependencies, while others are unable to provide the right support or parenting skills.
Whilst their circumstances will all be different, each and every child deserves a safe and happy home this summer.
