We believe that understanding what lies beneath a child’s behaviour can make all the difference to your child and you.
As a foster parent, you are the main agent of change in a child or young person’s life. We know that looking after a child isn’t easy at times. When you foster with us, you’ll feel part of a large and supportive community, it’s a partnership, with the child right at the very centre.
How our Therapy Service supports you and your foster child
There will be opportunities to spend time with our therapists through a variety of therapy led groups, training and consultations. Our therapists will support you in thinking, reflecting and understanding, linking behaviours to past trauma or attachment difficulties. This approach can help you to develop new ways of responding, which will enable you to better meet your child’s needs whether they are emotional, developmental or behavioural.
If your child has very complex needs, you may be invited to attend Team Parenting® meetings. These meetings are a space for everyone involved in a young person’s care to come together and share their experience and observations of the child, and come up with ideas and solutions for them.
The group always opens my mind and I have learned something new every time. I found talking and listening to others great as they can also help with obstacles and challenges from their experience. You have helped me to see things from the child points of view.
