Jackie and Simon have been fostering with FCA for eight and a half years and during that time have looked after five children.
Jackie and Simon share their story with us and why they decided to recommend Jackie’s daughter and son-in-law through FCA’s word of mouth scheme.
“We had thought about fostering for many years but wanted to wait until our children were older. It wasn’t until our daughter had moved out and our son was 16 that we decided to take the first step. We heard adverts on the radio about fostering and decided the time was right to start looking into different agencies. We looked at various agencies online and kept being drawn back to FCA, so we made the call and started the process.
Fostering for us has been a very fulfilling, enjoyable and rewarding experience. One particular child who didn’t show emotion for the first four years he was placed with us, became quite emotional and let us know just how much of a positive impact we had on his life. He has kept in touch with us and visited us since he has left. His birth family were also extremely grateful for everything we did and couldn’t thank us enough. It really makes it all worthwhile!
My daughter and son-in-law had seen first had what it was like being part of a fostering family and they had always shown an interest in becoming foster carers themselves and knew what it entailed. So when the time was right for them, we recommend them to FCA through their Refer-a-Friend Scheme. As part of the word of mouth scheme, when you recommend someone you get £1,500 once they are approved and a further £1,500 after they complete their first year of fostering. A great incentive if you know someone who would be good at fostering.
