FCA Midlands donate bleed kit

FCA Midlands donated a bleed kit to the city of Coventry to pay tribute to Babacar Diagne who lost his life to knife crime at the age of 15.

Remembering Babacar

In 2020, Babacar Diagne lost his life to knife crime at the age of 15. At the time, Babacar was a foster child supported by his foster family and living in the Midlands.

To pay tribute to Babacar’s life, the FCA Midlands Youth Council decided to raise money for a bleed kit to donate to the city of Coventry in Babacar’s name. Watch their story here.

Now that the children and young people have successfully raised the funds, preparations have been made to permanently install the bleed kit at the Jubilee Crescent Community Centre in Radford on Tuesday 28th May, in honour of the greatly missed Babacar. They hope the installation of the bleed kit, which will be part of the ‘Safe Space’ initiative in Coventry, will not only raise awareness about knife crime but have the potential to save a life.

Babacar was caring and kind to everyone. He was part of my family, even if it was for only a while. He made me laugh. He would always talk about the importance of health and how we have one life that we should live to the fullest. When we would go shopping he would encourage me to get the healthiest option and the best items for myself. He has impacted my life in a positive way as whenever I go shopping, I think about him. He is missed not only by me but my family too.

Attendees from FCA Midlands, including the Youth Council, Coventry City Council, West Mercia Police, and Jubilee Crescent Youth Centre, held a commemorative event after the bleed kit was donated.

BBC Midlands Today also attended and interviewed our Youth Council members, FCA Midlands Jo Edwards, to raise awareness and ensure this important story was heard. You can watch the report on BBC Iplayer dated 28th May 2024.
