FCA Midlands Hosts Family Sports Day

The FCA Midlands crew of 108 came together on the 8th August for a spirited sports day featuring fun competitions, warm-up dances, and a kids vs. adults football match, all while celebrating their diverse community and supporting those affected by recent riots.

Standing in solidarity

We started our day by joining hands in a big circle, coming together in support of communities around the country who were facing the riots.

Our Registered Manager, Kate Taylor, shared some words of support and love, celebrating our beautifully diverse community of children and young people, foster parents, and staff here at FCA Midlands.

Warm up time

After that it was time to get the party started – we warmed up to some party classics and learnt dance moves to Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off to get limbered up ready for the main events!

Once warmed up it was on to the competition.

On your marks…

Our sports day had egg and spoon races (made all the more challenging by the gale-force wind!), bean bag throws, and sack races, which if we’re being honest demonstrated a real mixed-bag of skill (pardon the pun)!

We also had a bouncy castle slide which turned into a water slide and hoverboards which were lots of fun for our smaller people!

At lunch time we enjoyed burgers (with veggie options) followed by our favoruite ice creams from the ice cream van.

A Euros-inspired afternoon

Then it was time for the kids vs. adults football match, inspired by the recent Euros. Kate tried her hand at goalie, while Jo got stuck into defense and Paige mostly just screamed at the ball.

The football match brought out everyone’s competitive side and we think it’s safe to say our staff haven’t done that much running in a while…

Once again the Great British weather left us wondering if we’d ever see the sunshine again.

Thank you to everyone who came from FCA – from our young people, and their foster parents to our staff and their own families –  we’ll see what we can do about the weather next year!

One of our young people, shared that he enjoyed playing football on the big field in the rain and winning a trophy and medal. He has also said he enjoyed playing with staff and children and seeing everyone, he said: “Everything was super good,” and gave a fabulous 5 stars!
