Maisie is an African Caribbean teenager who is 7 months pregnant.
She has been in residential care since the age of 14 when she was deemed to be at risk. Her mother’s partner had sexually abused Maisie’s elder sister and her mother was unwilling to end her relationship with him.
Maisie was also involved in offending, mainly shoplifting with a group of friends. Maisie has had to move out of the residential unit due to her pregnancy and her social worker is concerned about her ability to look after a child. She has had very little ante natal care as she tends to avoid appointments but she is fiercely determined to keep the baby and move into a flat of her own.
Maisie will not say who the baby’s father is and doesn’t want him to know about the child. Maisie needs a foster carer who can support her with learning independent living skills, support her in learning how to care for a child and assess her ability to develop parenting skills. Maisie is a lively, sociable, good fun to be with and determined to make a fresh start and give her child a good start in life.
